More plans lodged for a rapidly expanding business park on the city outskirts have sparked further fears the site is becoming overdeveloped.

Popeyes Louisiana Chicken wants to build its first Norfolk branch in Broadland Gate, Postwick, with a drive-through and 26 car parking bays next to the existing McDonald's.

But the new proposal - just weeks after M&S applied to build a 1,950 sq m food hall at the same site - is fuelling concerns that the area is becoming too busy and car-dependent.

"Broadland Gate business park is growing with a considerable mix of care homes, storage facilities, fast food chains, retail outlets, a car showroom and a police station.

"And despite Popeyes submitting a sustainable transport plan, I do not doubt that it will be just another car-dependent development which will contribute to increased traffic volume and pollution.

Cllr Laming recently raised the alarm over inadequate crossing facilities for people living in the new Oaks housing development just north of the site.

She added: "Residents of the development are currently unable to safely cross Poppy Way which is becoming increasingly busy.

"A safe crossing over Poppy Way for walking, wheeling and cycling needs to be provided before any more development takes place on this business park.

South Norfolk Council aims to reach a decision on the Popeyes proposal by mid-January.
