A man has died after suffering a fall as a result of self neglect and unknown weight loss, a court has heard.

Wayne Hanton, who was born on December 29, 1954 in Great Yarmouth, died at James Paget University Hospital on November 21, 2024.

An inquest was opened last week into the 69-year-old's death at Norfolk Coroner's Court where the medical cause of death was given.

It said the retired security officer, who lived in Admiralty Road, died due to: "Multi-organ failure, due to acute kidney injury and shock, as a consequence of a fall with a long lie."

The report added: "This was because of increasing frailty and weight loss, of an unknown cause, as well as self neglect and cerebrovascular disease."

Area coroner, Yvonne Blake, set the full inquest for April 29, 2025.
