An appeal to help Norfolk families at Christmas has already collected more than 1,000 gifts.

The Alive UK Christmas appeal, supported by Chantry Place Norwich, is aiming to match last year's total of 2,101 gifts by December 15.

People are encouraged to donate unwrapped gifts, toys, or chocolates at the collection point on Chantry Place's lower ground floor, opposite Boots.

The Eastern Daily Press and Norwich Evening News are partnering with Alive and Chantry Place on the appeal.

Alive UK, a local charity with about 50 volunteers, provides emergency support to people in crisis in Norfolk.

All the collected gifts will be given to families in need.

Richard Porritt, regional editor, said: "This time of year reminds us of the importance of community.

"Supporting this toy appeal allows us to bring smiles to children, and families, who might otherwise go without, ensuring every child feels the magic of Christmas no matter the circumstances.

"It’s vital that we step up where we can to help those in need.

"If you're able, please donate before the deadline and help us make a real difference."

Last year, the appeal tripled its 2022 total, donating 2,101 gifts and treats, and helping more than 900 families over Christmas.

Jo Thorne, chair of trustees and pastor of Alive Church, said: “Last year we helped many families and the generosity of visitors at Chantry Place was overwhelming.

"It makes such an incredible difference to these families who are struggling and we hope to be able to spread some more Christmas magic this year.”

Jo Bates, operations manager at Chantry Place, said: “We continue to be overwhelmed with the generosity of our customers, our retailers and team at Chantry Place and we have already received so many gifts for the appeal this year."
