Children from a Norwich school had the chance to play bakers for the day following a special visit.
Owner of Pye Bakery, John Watts - or chef Grimsby as he is known by - welcomed pupils from Nelson Infant School to a visit around the shop earlier this month. The following week he attended the school to host a demonstration.
A spokesman for Nelson Infant, based on Northumberland Street off Dereham Road, said: 'We walked to Pye Baker and Grimsby showed us around the front and back of the bakery. He talked about the different types of breads and cakes that they make.
'We bought four different types of loaves of bread and we then tasted the bread and made a bar chart of our favourites. We all found the visit informative and very enjoyable.
'The cakes looked yummy.'
During his visit, chef Grimsby talked to the children about the history of bread making. He showed us the ingredients used in different breads and how each part of a grain is used for different tasks.
'The children really got stuck in with buttering the tins and mixing the dough. The children then took their dough in small individual tins to the school kitchen to be baked.
'It was such a fantastic experience for all.'
The favourite part of the day for the pupils was stirring the dough!
