A Grade II listed statue which has watched over city folk for 117 years could soon be on the move to a new home.
The statue of Sir Thomas Browne, which stands in the city's Hay Hill area, could be moving to a "better position" and increase its prominence as part of plans to give the city's central square a makeover.
If plans submitted to Norwich City Council yesterday (November 28) are approved, the figure would move from its existing location at the top of the stairs directly in front of Next to a place on the steps in between McDonald's and the former Topshop store.
It would not be the first time his bust has been moved, with a 1998 relocation seeing the statue make way for a temporary art installation.
Plans would also see the brain-shaped 2007 sculpture, Homage to Thomas Browne, move to Elm Hill Gardens.
Browne was a 17th century doctor, scientist, botanist, naturalist, philosopher and writer.
He spent most of his adult life living in the city centre.
If plans are approved it is thought relocation work will be complete by October 2023.
