Norwich City centre-back Andrew Omobamidele is being tracked by Sheffield United, according to reports.

The Star have claimed that Omobamidele is a player of interest to the Blades, as Paul Heckingbottom attempts to plot a route to Premier League survival after his side’s promotion from the Championship.

The Canaries are open to selling the Irish international this summer, after sporting director Stuart Webber admitted he’d be “very surprised” if the defender remained at Carrow Road beyond the summer transfer window.

Webber also told the Pink Un he’d rejected an offer for Omobamidele worth more than Ben Godfrey’s £25million move to Everton.

“We turned down an offer in January for Andrew Omobamidele which was bigger than what we sold Ben Godfrey for (to Everton),” he said.

“We're fortunate as a club that how we've run it, how we've tried to run it, is to make sure that we don't have a gun against our head. Sometimes we choose to sell the player, because it's the right thing maybe to reinvest in the squad.”

The Canaries are hoping to raise funds to overhaul their squad, after a disappointing 13th-placed finish last season.

All three of their signings thus far have arrived on free transfers, with Reading winger Tom Ince a target and available for £50,000 after the Royals’ relegation to League One.

The latest of those was Omobamidele's international team-mate Shane Duffy, whose capture he greeted with a message of congratulations on Instagram.

The 20-year-old played 35 times for Norwich last season, captaining the team on the final stretch with Grant Hanley out injured.

He made his debut as an 18-year-old in the Championship-winning campaign of 2020-21, but had his game time limited by injury in the ensuing Premier League season.

He impressed, however, in top flight defeats to Arsenal and Leeds United, scoring his first senior professional goal in the latter fixture.

The Norwich number four was recently the subject of a documentary made and aired by the club, detailing his journey from the small town of Leixlip to Carrow Road.

United are yet to bid for his services, but have reportedly made contact with City about his availability this summer.
