Norwich City Women 2
London Seaward 2
Norwich City Women maintained their unbeaten start to the Women’s National League season with a hard-fought draw at The Nest.
City took a while to settle into the game, but started to cause their visitors problems once they found their feet midway through the first half.
Megan Todd and Freya Symonds orchestrated most of City’s attacks, with the former firing just over and the latter linking up nicely with Natasha Snelling. Then, on the half hour mark, Snelling steered captain Anna Larkins’ corner home to put City in front.
Seaward responded well to going behind, with Sarah Quantrill having to tip Katherine Long’s shot over the bar to maintain City’s lead heading into the break. However, the City goalkeeper could not prevent another Long effort from finding the target nine minutes into the second period.
Martin Herdman then made plenty of changes to try and push for a winning goal, and City thought they had found one when Snelling fired past visiting keeper Tia Ginn from 25 yards for her second of the afternoon.
Less than two minutes later though, Seaward levelled proceedings once more, with Megan Burrows’ long-range effort flying over Quantrill and into the top corner.
The hosts pushed for a third goal in the latter stages, with Ginn making a smart save to deny Snelling, but City had to settle for a point.
Norwich City: Quantrill, Larkins (c), Flye, Strauss, Todd, Knights, Drake, Tomlinson, Symonds, Snelling, Shaw. Subs: Parker, Daviss, Smith, Hailes, Lawrence.
