A local football club has announced that it has folded after pleas for a new home or further investment proved unsuccessful.

The future of Norwich CBS was left uncertain at the end of March when bosses announced that their home ground, Norfolk FDC, was going to end the club's contract at the end of the season.

Now, after weeks of trying to work out a solution, the club announced on Sunday that it was unsuccessful in its search for a new home or further investment, and will fold at the end of the season.

"It is with a heavy heart and great disappointment that today we are announcing that we have informed the Thurlow Nunn League that Norwich CBS will be withdrawing its membership for the upcoming season and, as a result, the club will be folding.

"It has been a wonderful journey, full of good memories that will never be forgotten and friendships that will last a lifetime.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank every player that has pulled on a CBS shirt and played their part in the history of the club.

"All good journeys have to come to an end and sadly, this time, it's ours - but we know, once a CBS, always a CBS."

The club, with a history dating back to 1888, started playing at the FDC after winning the Anglian Combination Premier Division title in 2017, which saw them promoted into the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League - at step six of the non-league pyramid.

The team was financially supported by the club's chairman, Mark Collison, for the last few seasons after the FDC banned sponsorship at the ground.
