Out-of-contract Norwich City left-back Dimitris Giannoulis is aiming for a move to one of Europe's top leagues this summer.

The 28-year-old's Carrow Road departure was confirmed last month with his deal up at the end of June, leaving him free to find another club ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.

Several reports have linked Giannoulis with a return to his native Greece, with AEK Athens touted as a potential destination along with Panathinaikos.

Those AEK suggestions were rejected by a spokesperson for the club back in February, and it appears that the 27-cap international is against a switch back to the country he left for Norwich in 2021.

"Yes (there is interest from Greek teams), but that's about it so far, so when we're done here I'll sit down and talk and see which one happens," he said.

"I think I am a good age, and I think I still have a lot to give. So I think it would be better for me to continue abroad, but things don't always turn out the way you want them to."

Giannoulis was also the subject of interest from Russian club Spartak Moscow and their local rivals CSKA last summer, having previously been linked with the likes of Roma.

Staying in Norfolk was also a possibility if City had been promoted via the play-offs rather than a semi-final defeat to Leeds, but he now says he wants to try playing elsewhere on the continent.

"I want to play in Spain, I like it there, I want to play in Italy," he revealed via the Betarades YouTube channel. "Maybe Germany, which is a very nice league. I don't know if generally life will be so different from here, maybe not.

"I've talked to people and they know what the reality is, they know what my priorities are."
