Adam Idah’s Republic of Ireland were comfortably beaten by Portugal in their last friendly of the summer.

The Norwich City striker started up front for the Boys in Green, but Cristiano Ronaldo’s double added to a goal from Joao Felix to complete a 3-0 stroll for the Euro 2024 contenders.

Idah was replaced by Leicester’s Tom Cannon in the 53rd minute, while fellow Canary Shane Duffy was an unused substitute.

Question marks remain over the 23-year-old’s future, with loan club Celtic keen to sign him permanently and Idah open about the love he has for the Hoops.

Norwich will only sell for the right price, however, and are open to having him as part of their first-team squad if a satisfactory bid is not received.

It was a more enjoyable night for Marcelino Nunez, who played the full 90 minutes as Chile beat Paraguay by the same scoreline.

Nunez started in a deep midfield position as his nation completed their preparations for the Copa America, where they could face Josh Sargent’s USA or Jose Cordoba’s Panama.

Victor Davila got Chile off to a good start, completing a first-half double at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Pradanos. Eduardo Vargas completed the victory the other side of half time, with both sides making several changes late on.

La Roja open their tournament on Saturday, June 22 when they face Peru at the AT&T Stadium, before a clash with Argentina four days later. They'll round off their group games against Canada, after which they'll hope they've finished in the top two and made the quarter-finals.

Idah, Duffy and Nunez are now expected to have a break before returning to Colney for pre-season testing, with City's warm-up fixtures for the Championship season beginning in July.

They'll learn their opening day opponents when the EFL release their fixtures on June 26.
