New Norwich City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup was spotted supporting his former side’s women’s team as he gears up to start work at Carrow Road.

The 35-year-old made a brief return to Denmark to watch the Brondby women’s team take on FC Nordsjaelland, the side from which he was poached, in a match to crown the nation’s champions.

The Tigers avoided defeat to seal the trophy, Winonah Heatley’s strike enough to earn a point despite Hafrun Rakel Halldorsdottir’s equaliser.

Thorup is expected to fly back to England in the middle of the week ahead of his official unveiling as Norwich head coach on Friday, June 21. He’ll be joined at the top table by sporting director Ben Knapper, who’ll explain the new man’s appointment and look ahead to next season.

Players who didn’t go away on international duty are expected back at Colney a week later for fitness testing, with pre-season training starting in earnest on Monday, July 1.

Jose Cordoba has already been confirmed as the Canaries’ first signing of the summer but won’t link up with his new team-mates until after he’s played in the Copa America with Panama.

The same is true of Josh Sargent and the USA, while Scottish trio Angus Gunn, Grant Hanley and Kenny McLean will hope a successful Euro 2024 prolongs their spell away from Norfolk.

Shane Duffy and Adam Idah represented Ireland in two friendlies, as did Tony Springett with the country’s under-21s, for whom he faced Kellen Fisher, Brad Hills, Abu Kamara and the England under-20s.

Jonathan Tomkinson will hope to impress Thorup early after becoming a mainstay on loan at Bradford, with fellow centre-back Emmanuel Adegboyega another who could break into the first team if he does well.

City announced friendlies against Stevenage and Northampton Town earlier in the week, with Club Brugge and Magdeburg two of their other warm-up opponents.
