New Norwich City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup's first competitive home game is less than seven weeks away, after the Canaries were drawn against Stevenage in the Carabao Cup.

The Canaries' first-round clash with the Boro was confirmed this morning, and will take place at Carrow Road the week commencing August 12, just days after their Championship season opener at Oxford United.

It'll mark Thorup's official debut in the City dugout, with only friendlies against German sides Magdeburg and St. Pauli to come before then.

The visitors are also under new management, having replaced Steve Evans with assistant Alex Revell after the former's shock exit to re-join Rotherham United.

He made the move to the Millers despite an impressive season in League One, the Hertfordshire side's first third-tier appearance in 10 years.

They'll hope to build on a 9th-placed finish last term, and will enjoy a dress rehearsal for the cup game when Norwich visit The Lamex on Wednesday, July 9 for a pre-season meeting.

City reached the third round of the competition last term, beating QPR and Bristol City before a valiant defeat by Premier League Fulham, who went on to reach the semi-final.

Stevenage got to round two with a shock win on penalties over local rivals Watford, going out by the same means when they took on Exeter.

The EFL's full league fixture schedule was released earlier this week, with Norwich set for home games against Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield United after the trip to the Kassam.

Thorup's priorities are yet to be seen, but the League Cup is a competition that's seen success for the club over its 122-year history.

Both of their major trophies came in it, first in 1962 and then 23 years later via a Gordon Chisholm own goal.

Although replicating those achievements is unlikely this time around, the Stevenage game presents an opportunity for the new era to gain momentum under Thorup.
