Norwich City boss Johannes Hoff Thorup remains committed to assessing Adam Idah in pre-season despite claims of a fresh Celtic bid.

Sky Sports are reporting that the Scottish champions have now made their move to bring the 23-year-old back to Glasgow after a successful loan posting last season.

Norwich are understood to have made Celtic and Idah’s representatives aware of their valuation for the Irish international and, as of yet, that has not been met by the Scottish club.

Brendan Rodgers made clear of his desire to bring Idah back to the club after a stint that saw him score nine goals as Celtic recorded a domestic double ahead of Old Firm rivals Rangers, with the City striker netting a dramatic winner in the cup final.

The report makes no mention of what the offer is worth, but Idah is expected to prefer a return to Scotland this summer. Norwich have Josh Sargent, Ashley Barnes and Ken Aboh, who signed a new contract on Tuesday, as their other striking options.

Thorup made his intentions to give Idah an assessment in close quarters in pre-season clear at his opening press conference last month - and that remains the case ahead of his return.

“Yes, definitely with that guy,” he said. “He's an exciting player. And he's from here, and he's been in the club so many years and can do dangerous stuff up front. He's fast, he moves well, he gets into these areas in the box where you decide games. So, definitely, I will have a look at him, I think otherwise it will be stupid.”

Rodgers, meanwhile, has been open about his desire for the Irish international to return and hoped a deal to sign him on a permanent basis would be possible this summer.

"He's been the real catalyst for us," said Rodgers after their Scottish Cup final win. "I knew what I was getting, he's fast and dynamic and has strength.

"What he's shown since coming in is he is a goalscorer. Great headers, great movement in the box.

"He's been absolutely immense for us and he's clearly someone I would like to do something with."
