Norwich City are interested in signing Manchester City youngster Callum Doyle this summer as their left-back search gathers pace.

The England youth international is wanted by a host of clubs on a loan deal this summer, and Norwich are fighting for his signature. It is thought Doyle has been at Colney on a fact-finding mission, but that a deal is not yet close or agreed.

Any deal to bring Doyle to Carrow Road would be a loan, with Norwich expecting their search to speed up in the coming days.

Doyle spent last season on loan at Championship champions Leicester and has previously enjoyed loan spells at Sunderland and Coventry. The 20-year-old can also play as a central defender.

He made 17 appearances for the Foxes last season, with 12 coming as a left back, and is highly rated by Manchester City, although he is yet to make a senior debut for the club.

Norwich are in the market for at least one left-back, but potentially even two, this summer after losing both Dimi Giannoulis and Sam McCallum at the end of last season. It has become a priority for Ben Knapper, Johannes Hoff Thorup and City's recruitment team.

That has left Guilherme Montoia as the only natural option in the squad, with central defender Waylon Renecke also capable of fulfilling that role.

Speaking after their friendly against Northampton Town, Thorup indicated that progress was being made on the hunt for a new left back.

"I think Ben was calling a lot of people these days," he told the Pink Un. "So yes I think something will happen soon. I know sometimes people, including myself, can be a little bit impatient, but it's more important that we get the right left back instead of just getting a left back fast or quick.

"That's the most important but he's making a lot of phone calls, Ben, and we're having a lot of meetings so hopefully there'll be something within the not too many weeks."
