Norwich City have confirmed the signing of Aston Villa England U20 international left back Ben Chrisene.
The 20-year-old has signed a four-year deal, with a further one-year club option, for an undisclosed fee and is expected to feature in Tuesday’s Austrian tour friendly against Hoffenheim.
Chrisene is the first of two left-sided additions to Johannes Hoff Thorup’s squad.
Manchester City youngster Callum Doyle is set to complete a season long loan deal next week when he returns from the Citizens’ US tour.
Chrisene is believed to have undergone a medical on Monday before flying in to the club’s Austrian tour base later on Monday night.
The Dane hinted a new addition was ‘close’ after Friday’s FC Magdeburg friendly at Carrow Road.
“I'm excited to be here and excited to get started,” Chrisene told the club’s official site. “The project and new direction is really exciting, not only for me but for the whole club.
“I’ve spoken to the head coach about what he wants to do. I’m really looking forward to working with him. I feel I’ve still got a lot to learn but hopefully it gels pretty quickly and we can hit the ground running.
Sporting director Ben Knapper, on the club’s official site, added: “Ben is an exciting young player with lots of potential and further room for development.
“Physically, he has all of the attributes of a modern-day full-back. Under the guidance of Johannes and our coaching staff, we believe he can take more great steps and form a key part of our squad.
“We’re delighted to welcome Ben to our first team group and are excited to see what he can help us achieve.”
Chrisene started at Exeter and was the Grecians’ youngest ever senior debutant at the age of 15.
The defender moved to Villa in 2020 and was part of their FA Youth Cup winning squad in 2021.
He finished last season on loan at Championship rivals Blackburn, and had a previous loan stint in Scotland at Kilmarnock.
Chrisene made one senior appearance for Villa, against Liverpool in the FA Cup in January 2021.
The left back was on international duty with new club-mates Kellen Fisher, Brad Hills and Abu Kamara earlier this summer against their Swedish and Republic of Ireland counterparts.
