Angus Gunn has credited Norwich City goalkeeping coach Paul Clements with elevating his game to the next level.

The shot-stopper has become the Canaries' consistent number one since the ex-Huddersfield man succeeded Ed Wootten last summer. Gunn's own game has improved to levels that have seen him establish himself for Scotland as well as taking strides for City in that time.

Clements has worked closely with Gunn to refine his game to a level that, according to performance data, saw him become one of the leading goalkeepers in the Championship last season and a reliable member of City's squad.

The work undertaken by Clements to help City's stable of keepers prepare for matches is something that Gunn believes has increased his confidence in game scenarios.

"He's definitely taken my game to the next level," Gunn told the Pink Un. "We work really hard during the week. At times last season it felt like the games were, not easy, but natural because of the work that we'd done during the week.

"He always prepares us for the opposition that we're going to face and I think that detail has made it a lot easier for me to go into the games and feel that confidence.

"Hopefully I can carry on showing that this season and have another good year."

Gunn is expected to be handed the number one shirt this summer and featured throughout Scotland's campaign at the European Championship, despite contending with a hand injury and the disappointment of failing to progress from their group.

That experience, coupled with his body of evidence at City last year, gives him renewed belief as he heads into the new campaign on Saturday against Oxford.

"I'm taking a lot of confidence, not only from last season, but the summer as well. Like I've said before, games breed confidence, especially high-level games," he said.

"I feel that I'm building on my game and I just want to look to try to get better and see where that takes me. I'm really looking forward to this season and it's a new regime with new ideas.

"We've seen before here that even if it doesn't start as well, it can definitely finish good. We're all really looking forward to it."
