The international break came at a bad time for Norwich City after claiming their first league win of the season.

That's the verdict from Canaries midfielder Liam Gibbs, who came on in the 84th minute to help secure a 1-0 victory over Coventry and three valuable Championship points last weekend.

He was frustrated by the timing of the two-week interruption of club football, after City had finally managed to mark a positive performance with the result they deserved.

"Everyone was buzzing," he told the Pink Un of the Sky Blues triumph. "To get the first win was needed and felt like it was coming, but we just hadn't quite got over the line yet.

"We got that and then it was cut short a bit because the internationals were then heading straight off. It'll be nice to get the whole squad back together and get us ready for Swansea.

"The international break came right after our first win, which isn't ideal. We can see in our performances that it's coming and the performances are growing. We just need to keep working, and we'll get to a point where we're at a very good standard."

That desire for improvement gives Gibbs the chance to frame the break positively, with him and several of his fellow non-internationals able to focus more closely on their own games.

"It gives us the time now to fine-tune those extra little bits individually that maybe we couldn't have done if we had another game around the corner," he continued.

"There are always positives there that we'll try and take, and we're just looking forward to building as a squad once they're all back and looking forward to Swansea.

"We're still working hard, we're still in at the moment. We have a few days off towards the end of the week, but it's a good opportunity to get that extra work in.

"We are a smaller group, so you can work more closely with the coaches on the little things in your game that you want to improve."
