Run Norwich will have been the culmination of many people’s training for several weeks and even months.
The more seasoned runners, who of course run and race regularly throughout each 12 months of the year, will already be thinking about their next event.
For those though who perhaps are more novice, firstly congratulations on what I hope was an amazing day for you, but once the euphoria has died down be prepared for what might be a bit of a low.
Even the elite can experience a low after such a high. It was very much like that for me during my racing days, particularly after what had been a long build up to a peak race. Oh and no I wasn’t one of the elites lol!!!
I recently had a come down after running Hadrian’s Wall with some of my best friends during July. It was absolutely brilliant. Not just the run itself but the focus it gave me during the weeks leading up to it.
So, and with this in mind, take your time to recover and of course keep celebrating what will hopefully have been your own personal success last Sunday.
However, I will bet come this Sunday it will be a case of thinking ‘this time last week….’
So, start thinking about your next challenge. Keep it realistic of course and even if you have plans to run a marathon one day, then brilliant and go for it. But take your time, especially if Run Norwich was your longest ever run.
Training is all about adaptation. In other words, and providing we are sensible and patient our bodies become much more receptive to the various stresses applied during exercise.
In the case of running longer distances such things as our cardiovascular system will become much more efficient along with bones, joints and muscles also becoming much stronger too which of course is great.
Join a club or running group if you haven’t already. Clubs and groups are a great way to not only run with other people, but also a brilliant way to learn and get guidance from coaches and those with far much more experience.
Have a great weekend, wherever you might be running, particularly to all those taking part in the Round Norfolk Relay.
