Luke Williams felt pinning Norwich City back in a defining early Swansea onslaught was crucial to edging a 1-0 Championship win.

Amankwah Forson turned Jisung Eom’s cross past Angus Gunn in the midst of an aggressive, high pressing start from the Swans.

The hosts then had to survive a late riposte, with Borja Sainz spurning numerous chances to earn at least a point for Johannes Hoff Thorup’s squad.

“They are a really good side, and that was a big win and a big performance from us,” said Williams. “A very, very capable side. Make no mistake. If you don’t get to grips with Norwich early they will take the game away from you, and you won’t see the ball and you will be chasing shadows. That was a huge effort against a really tough opposition, so I am pleased with that.

“We were really aggressive with and without the ball, and I think we just about deserved the victory, even though they put a lot of pressure on us towards the end of the game.

“I also thought in the first half in particular we played some very good football and controlled the majority of the game.”

Sainz had four chances beyond the 84th minute mark, with Welsh international Ben Cabango denying the Spaniard with a superbly-timed last-ditch tackle on one occasion.

“That is as good as a goal, I mean what a tackle. Ben Cabango’s impression of Bobby Moore. Incredible,” said Williams. “To see players tearing back and putting their bodies on the line is just as good as seeing your team creating chances and scoring goals.

“The last 15 were very tense and we had to show a lot of character to defend our box. Sometimes you can play brilliantly in football and get nothing. Other times, it can go either way and you end up on the fortunate side. So I’ll take that.”
