Johannes Hoff Thorup will never try and curb Borja Sainz’s instinctive brilliance in a Norwich City shirt.

Sainz has been shortlisted for the Championship player of the month, after a league best nine goal contributions in his first nine games of the new season.

Former City defender Danny Batth, now at Blackburn, is also nominated along with Sheffield Wednesday’s Barry Bannan and West Brom’s Alex Mowatt, with the winner announced on Friday.

Sainz sealed the Canaries’ 4-0 rout against Hull with a cool lob, after trying an audacious early chip that was saved by Ivan Pandur.

“He gives us moments that all of us will remember for years, and sometimes there'll also be these moments where he tried to do something that none of us will ever try to do, and you don't succeed,” said Thorup.

“You know in this world, where we always want the most constructive solution to things, we can forget these creative players once in a while will try things that don’t come off.

“That's a part of his game. We have to practice that situation for him going forward, so he can deal with it even better. But then he gives us some other moments later in the same game, and also so far this season, and it's not just a simple one, to score that fourth goal for him. That takes class.”

Sargent, Marcelino Nunez and on-loan Liverpool youngster Kaide Gordon’s first senior goal completed another four-star showing at Carrow Road, after the previous hammering of Watford.

“We talk so much about the collective approach, where it's not really for me, or should not be for the players, important who will score the goals,” said Thorup. “It's just important that we create the biggest possible chance.

"And I think the second goal is beautiful, and of course, a little bit of luck but still important that Kaide stays alive for that third goal, where he tries to put them under pressure.

“We could have scored the penalty for Sarge and both Borja and Nacho in the beginning of the match. So many good moments, and that's what we want to be as a side going forward; that we can score goals out of nothing, but, of course, also score goals in our best moments.”
