Norwich City leadership duo Grant Hanley and Kenny McLean both started for Scotland as they were beaten 2-1 by Croatia in the Nations League.

Hanley was chosen at centre-back despite struggling for game time at club level, earning a clumsy yellow card in the eighth minute after a fast start from the hosts.

McLean was paired in midfield by former City loanee Billy Gilmour, claiming his 45th cap for the Tartan Army.

They couldn’t stop a painful defeat for Steve Clarke’s side, however, with Croatia coming from behind to secure the three points.

Bournemouth’s Ryan Christie opened the scoring for Scotland, but quickly saw his strike cancelled out by former Tottenham veteran Ivan Perisic. Ex-Leicester striker Andrej Kramaric completed the turnaround, leaving the away team without a win in group A1.

They’ll have a chance to redeem themselves in Tuesday’s meeting with Portugal at Hampden Park, which kicks off at 7:45pm.

Oscar Schwartau’s Denmark under-19s were also in action earlier today, but the Norwich midfielder was an unused substitute as they lost 3-1 to Portugal.
