Johannes Hoff Thorup has pledged to get under the bonnet of Norwich City's working processes to prevent future fitness issues after a spate of first-team injuries.

The Canaries have a nine-strong group of absentees, including starting striker Josh Sargent, first-choice goalkeeper Angus Gunn and key midfield duo Anis Ben Slimane and Marcelino Nunez.

Kenny McLean's suspension, which has been extended by a further game by the FA after a misconduct charge was upheld, is adding to their woes in the centre of the pitch.

Several City players are missing with muscular injuries, which points to issues with their workload, and Thorup has committed to reviewing their work to find the root cause of their fitness troubles.

"Everything that we do, we need to look at," Thorup said.

"The muscular injuries are Marcelino, and we knew that Anis came with some fitness issues from Sheffield and had a hamstring injury just a couple of months ago, so we knew that he wasn't fully fit and wouldn't be able to play 90 minutes consistently for us - that's why he's only played 65 minutes so we could limit the risk.

"The cases that we need to look into are Liam Gibbs and Marcelino Nunez. The other cases are more situations with either suspensions or knocks in games. That's, unfortunately, part of being a football player.

"We look at everything, also with a critical eye. It's not, again neither the players or the staff, to blame but to see if we can come up with even better solutions for the future."

Norwich are set to head into Saturday's clash against Bristol City with the same squad as was available for Tuesday's defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, with concern over winger Christian Fassnacht, but the hope is that others may be fit for West Brom after the international break.

"For Angus, West Brom is realistic. We still have to see how he reacts to training on the pitch," said Thorup.

"With Marcelino, there is a possibility that he can be back for that game, but it can be a decision to see if we need to wait a little bit to make sure he's fully fit when we put him in again."
