Borja Sainz’s blistering goalscoring form for Norwich City is reportedly attracting interest from Atletico Madrid and Villarreal in his native Spain.

Galatasaray are also monitoring the 23-year-old, according to Turkish-based journalist Ekrem Konur, ahead of the January transfer window.

The ‘transfer news expert’ tweeted to his 235,000 followers on Monday the Canaries value Sainz at €25m, for a player who has ‘attracted the attention’ of Atleti and Gala.

Sainz lifted his second consecutive Championship player-of-the-month award ahead of the weekend defeat to Bristol City, and had produced 13 goal contributions in 15 league appearances prior to the international break.

The freescoring wide player has 18 months left on his existing Carrow Road deal, after arriving originally on a free transfer in 2023.

City took advantage of a relegation clause in his contract at previous Turkish Super Lig club Giresunspor, and after an inconsistent debut season in England, Sainz has blossomed under Johannes Hoff Thorup.

The latest transfer links come after reports in September his first club, Athletic Bilbao, had contacted Sainz’s camp as they draw up contingency plans to source potential replacements for Spain’s €70m rated Euro2024 star, Nico Williams.

His City boss, Thorup, deflected questions recently on whether sporting director Ben Knapper was planning Carrow Road contract extension talks with Sainz.

"I hope Ben is thinking about it," he joked. "I know he is. I'm not thinking about it; I never treat players in terms of how their contract is, whether that's salary or the length of it.

"It's just important that they are doing whatever they can in training and doing whatever they can in matches. It's the same with Borja.

"If I have to treat them in some way then I treat them like they're here on 15-year contracts, so that's what we're going to do with him. He's doing well, of course."

Gabby Sara joined Gala in the last summer window, with Adam Idah, Abu Kamara and Jon Rowe, initially on loan, following the Brazilian out of the exit door.

Both Thorup and Knapper have made it clear producing high value transfer market talent remains a key part of the club's mid to longer term strategy, as they look to plot a route back to the Premier League.
