Argyle have struggled on the road since their return to the Championship at the start of last season, winning on just three occasions since winning the League One title. They have only taken two points in their eight games away from Devon, scoring twice and conceding 17.
Rooney, who took charge in the summer, has guided them to four wins in their opening 17 matches with Plymouth sitting two points above the relegation zone heading into tonight's clash.
They could be without star winger Morgan Whittaker through injury and are also missing Joe Edwards, Ibrahaim Cissoko, Muhamed Tijani until January at the earliest, while Brendan Galloway and Conor Hazard are still sidelined. Ryan Hardie is also a doubt after missing Friday's game.
