Callum Doyle feels Norwich City's 6-1 demolition over Plymouth Argyle can help reset their Championship fortunes after a gruelling recent spell.

The Canaries' thrashing of Wayne Rooney's side at Carrow Road on Tuesday ended a seven-game streak without a victory and built upon an encouraging 2-2 draw against play-off chasing West Brom at the weekend.

Boosted by the return of key players from suspension and injuries, Doyle feels City replicated some of their high-quality performances from earlier in the campaign that provoked excitement among supporters over the future direction of travel before the squad was decimated.

"The fans were buzzing with that one, as the team are as well. The other teams are going to look at that score now, and it will give us a massive confidence boost," Doyle said.

"It's just what we needed going into the next games with high confidence, and the fans have seen what they saw at the start of the season with the patterns of play, especially for the last two goals; we'll take that into next week.

"It was fun to play and good to see nearly everyone getting on the scoresheet. It's good to see Shane, Anis and Ante scoring good goals. It was really good today, and everyone enjoyed it."

Thorup and his coaching team utilised the November international break for a deeper analysis into their shortcomings after three straight defeats but also to rest key players while nursing others closer to a return.

Doyle was one of the players who dropped out of international duty in order to reset his fitness levels - and Norwich are now seeing the fruits of that work in improved performances.

The hope is that tough spell has pushed City's squad closer together as they look for consistency in their pursuit of progress under Johannes Hoff Thorup.

It's a long season, and today, we have shown how good we are.

"It is just what we needed as a team. We've shown togetherness. It was a tough period. We had a lot of players with niggles and in a lot of pain, but we managed to get through that. We had a few draws and should have won at Cardiff.

"We are looking to the future now. It was good today but we're looking onto the next game."
